Sock puppet

  I had a sudden urge to make a sock puppet yesterday. Sadly I was distracted by a burn on my leg caused by spilling hot tea.

Amazing Animals

This will be my new semi-regular segment on my blog. It's called 'Amazing Animals'. Each time I'll post the name of an awesome animal and gives some facts and a picture.


This time my animal is the pygmy hippo. Here are some Q&A about them. I got them of the internet FYI.

1. Are pygmy hippos friendly?

Although pygmy hippopotamuses look relatively small and docile, they can be extremely aggressive when it comes to protecting their home or enclosure. They are not thought to be social animals. However, our animals are familiar with their daily Zoo routine and do recognize their keepers as food providers.

2. Could they hurt you?

Yes. They have large, sharp, tusk-like canine teeth that are used for protection and defense.

3. Why do they open their mouths?

That is usually a threat display. By opening their jaws and exhibiting their canines, the hippopotamuses hope to intimidate possible enemies. Also, our animals have been conditioned to open their mouth so keepers can inspect their teeth. Keepers give them treats to reinforce this behavior.

4. What is the white oil on the pygmy hippo's body?

Pygmy hippopotamuses produce this oil naturally. It protects their skin against water loss. 

5. How closely related are pygmy and Nile hippos?

Pygmy and Nile hippopotamuses are both members of the same family of mammals Hippopotamidae. At first glance they may look and act very much alike; but they are, in fact, two very distinct species with different lifestyles and physical adaptations.

I know I haven't posted in a while and I'm really sorry 'bout that. Anyways I'm going to talk about socks. People think I'm weird because I only like to wear bright, colourful socks. Well they're wrong I'm weird in so many other ways. Back to topic, recently you guys have voted on a poll to say what colour your favourite socks are. The majority of you (9 people, 56 %) said that your favourites are multicoloured. 1 of you or 6% preferred white socks, 2 of you pink, 1 of you red and 3 of you purple. Me, I chose multicoloured, of course. My favourite socks are stripes of various neon colurs (pink, orange, yellow, blue) and has a big, fuzzy purple peace sign. Awesome right?
